Football moves on to Semifinal Round vs. King Kekaulike
The Iolani Raiders Football team barely held on to beat the Kaimuki Bulldogs in a 41-40 victory yesterday at Kozuki Stadium (Iolani Field) in the 1st round of the Division II State Tournament. What appeared to be a blowout at 41-20 turned into a nail-biter as the Bulldogs scored 20 straight points to put them within 1, but could not complete a pass on their two-point conversion try with 30 seconds remaining to take the lead. (The decision to go for “two” was likely the result of 2 previous unsuccessful kick attempts which were both blocked.)
Senior Quarterback Ryan Dung put up big numbers throwing for 229 yards and 4 touchdowns, but the Raiders struggled against the strong running attack of Kaimuki who amassed a total of 360 yards on the ground using 8 different ball carriers.
Iolani continues on to the semifinal round in the Division II State Tournament where they will need to travel to Maui to play No. 2 seed King Kekaulike on Friday, November 24th at 7:30pm (War Memorial Stadium).
