Weekend Sports Update: Iolani Alumni

Megan BurtonCavan Scanlan ‘92 and the Samoan National Team took the Bronze medal in the 2007 South Pacific Games in Samoa. Through 8 games, Cavan averaged 6.5 points per game on 71% shooting (15 for 21) in helping the team to an overall record of 6-2.

Utah junior running back Raynold Stowers ‘04 rushed for 21 yards on 6 carries in a 20-12 loss to the Air Force Academy in the team’s home opener at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.

Ashley Aratani ‘04, a senior defensive specialist for the #8-ranked Washington Huskies, appeared in two matches this weekend to help her team improve their undefeated record to 8-0.

St. Mary’s sophomore middle blocker Megan Burton ‘06 (shown, right) had a steady weekend for the Gaels hitting .229 with 13 kills and 11 blocks in two losses to #9 BYU and #17 Cal-Poly. Freshman setter Kapua Kamana’o ‘07 also saw significant action against BYU and finished the match with 29 assists and 6 digs.

New Mexico sophomore goal keeper Kiani Wong ‘05 gave up just her second goal of the season in a 3-1 victory over Utah Valley State.

Freshman midfielder Nickey Ha ‘07 appeared in two games this weekend for the Loyola Marymount women’s soccer team who earned a tie (Indiana, 0-0) and a loss (Maryland, 3-0) in the Indiana University Hoosier Classic.

While in Hawaii for the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Classic, Pacific freshman Sammi Teramae ‘07 picked up two more assists (one in each game) to add to her team leading point total of 8. The Tigers improved to 3-0-1 after earning a tie and a win in games against the University of Hawaii (2-2) and the University of Tennessee - Martin (1-0).
