NCAA Basketball: Cougs win two in Oregon
The Washington State Cougars moved up #17 in the AP Top 25 after completing a two-game sweep of Oregon and Oregon State on the road last weekend.
The Cougs received huge contributions from backcourt mates Taylor Rochestie and Derrick Low ‘04 who accounted for more than 60% of the WSU offense in each of the two games. On Thursday, the pair combined for 45 points in a 70-57 win at Oregon State and returned two nights later to score 37 points in a 62-53 win over the Ducks.
On Saturday against Oregon, Low got the Cougars out to an early lead after hitting 3 of his first 4 shots, all three-pointers, and scoring 11 points in the first 7 minutes of the game. This was much to the dismay of the “Pit Crew”, Oregon’s student section, and one young man in particular who came to the game doing his best D-Low impersonation - dark black wig and ponytail to go along with a makeshift jersey with Low’s name and number (The fan quickly removed his gear after the hot start).
With the two road wins, Washington State improved to 20-5 and maintained their position in the Pac-10. The Cougs will return home to Pullman this week to face Arizona and Arizona State on Thursday and Saturday.
