Kansas Baseball: Wally Marciel ‘06
Kansas sophomore Wally Marciel ‘06 pitched six strong innings in a 2-1 victory over UH Hilo on Friday afternoon at Simmons’ Field in Kona.
The 5-10 lefty gave up just one run on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk to earn his first win of the season and help the Jawhawks improve to 1-0. This is the second consecutive year Marciel and his Kansas teammates have traveled to the Big Island to open their season to avoid the cold winter weather of the Midwest. Through five innings last year, he gave up two runs on five hits, striking out six and walking three in a 7-2 win.
Though their first five games, the Jayhawks are 2-3 and will play a single game at Arkansas tomorrow before opening the Music City Classic in Tennessee on Friday.
