Furukawa was actually the defending champion in the Long Jump for the prestigious Punahou Invitational since he won in 2007 as well. There were about a total of four athletes that were repeat winners in the 2008 Punahou Invitational. The Punahou Invitational is a preview of the State Championships since a lot of the best athletes are invitied to participate in their respective events.
